There are a lot of things that motivate me to work out besides general health and fitness. A few of them include:
- New workout clothes
- A new workout app
- New music
However, after the spectacular day I had today, I am convinced that my ultimate workout motivator is good weather.
After my solid cheesecake-like breakfast (and some actual cake too), I rode down to the club to play against Brian. We had a great match and played for about an hour.
Squash is great for a lot of things: fitness, rainy weather, cute tennis-like clothing. However, it’s NOT a sport meant for sunny days. Needless to say, after finishing my squash game and an apple, I was itching to get out in the sun.
One of my squash friends, Dragana, was also playing squash at the same time as me, and we decided yesterday to go for a run post-squash! We went running last week and although it rained a bit, we had a great time chatting the whole way, and the run absolutely flew by.
Today’s run was no different, and we stopped a handful of times to take advantage of the gorgeous west coast scenery.
We ran for a little over an hour, including our many photo breaks.
Part of our run took us through a park, where we stopped to come up with some creative exercises, really just for the fun of taking pictures 🙂
After some unsuccessful attempts at tri-dips and awkward stretching poses, we finally found a winner: bridge on a bridge!
Since we’d both just played squash prior to running, we were feeling pretty dehydrated. We ran straight to Starbucks and both ordered venti Passion Tango Iced Teas. Upon seeing our sweaty and disheveled state, the guy working the counter immediately gave us each a venti ice water. Our drinks were incredibly refreshing, and we both downed them before getting back to the squash club.
Once we arrived back at the squash club, I completed a core workout similar to the one I did on Friday, but added in a few more pushups and some more shoulder exercises to round it out.
A nice little sunny bike ride home finished off my activity for the day!
Four hours later, I am still l riding the high from my awesome day, and I’m hoping tomorrow is just as sunny and beautiful so that the good mood carries over!
Question: What motivates you to work out? Do you have an “ultimate motivator”?
