Today’s been a pretty busy day around here, and I don’t really have much to show for it! I woke up around 8:30 am to grab some breakfast before heading out to the 9th Annual Ivy Sports Symposium.
Breakfast this morning was PB&J oatmeal and an egg scramble with spinach, onion, and ham.
After breakfast I responded to a few emails before meeting up with Tyler, Ben, and Sammy (unpictured) to wait for the shuttle bus.
(Yes, Tyler is eating chips for breakfast, while Ben is eating a bagel. Kind of sums up the morning…)
Turns out this was a business-attire event, something which Ben clearly knew, and had prepared for. Fortunately, Tyler and I (who were dressed fairly casually) were more interested in listening to the speakers than major networking, so our choice of clothing wasn’t too much of a problem.
The symposium was interesting, however I found myself tiring during the second talk. After roughly 4 hours of waiting for the bus, listening to talks, and chatting, we decided to cab it back to school in time for practice. I’m now using this time before practice to blog, respond to a couple of emails, and get ready for tonight. Tonight’s plans include going to a friend’s dance show right after practice, followed by another friend’s birthday party. It’s going to be a busy night!
Alright, now that we’re all caught up with current events, how about a couple of Friday Favourites?! Thanks to Heather for hosting!
Last weekend at Yale, my parents and I went to Blue State Coffee for a bite to eat in between my matches. I was in the mood for a warm drink, and so I ordered something a little different than my usual Americano: a Cappuccino!
Since then I’ve really been loving the creamier beverage, and have found that it does a good job of filling me up as well. Plus, who doesn’t love foam?! 😀
I’ll cover more on this in another post, but I’ve got to give my fave new stretches some honourable mention ASAP! In last week’s team yoga session, our instructor introduced us to some new, intense stretches…using the wall. As someone who is quite inflexible, this really helped me to get deeper into the stretch without causing strain on other areas.
Some of the stretches we covered included the Figure 4 stretch, as well as some hamstring work. The instructor suggested that I try to spend roughly 15 minutes doing this stretches every day, to try and ameliorate my sad hip flexibility. (It really is sad).
Quick Computer Fix!
Last Sunday, something very sad happened. My computer was sitting on the seat beside me on the bus, and all of a sudden, the bus lurched forward, causing my laptop to fall on the floor. I quickly picked it up and was relieved to discover that it seemed to be working fine, however failed to examine the hardware thoroughly. Well, you can imagine my surprise when I tried to charge my computer on Monday night, only to discover that my charging outlet had been dented.
So, first thing after yoga on Tuesday morning, I rushed over to the student tech centre to get it fixed. The computer people originally estimated a turn around time of 3-5 days (an eternity in a college student life!), but was pleasantly surprised to receive an email early yesterday afternoon saying that my Mac was ready for pickup! Woo! Clearly the tech people know how vital computers are to us college students :).
Last “free” weekend
No, I’m not going to prison next week! I do, however, have matches every weekend (except for Thanksgiving) starting next week, for the next 4 months or so. I’m planning on taking full advantage of my weekend, by going up to Yale tomorrow to support our mens soccer team in the League championship game against Yale, followed by an evening of “Casino Night” fun! (FYI: “Casino Night” isn’t real gambling, it’s just a fun take on the whole Vegas theme).
This is the dress I wore for the occasion 2 years ago, and I’m debating whether or not to re-wear it. Is that too big of a no-no? (Fun fact: I absolutely hate the saying “no-no”. I can’t believe I just did it. Yuck.)
Alrighty, well now I’ve got to go get things ready for the rest of my day. I feel as though it’s only noon, but it’s somehow 3:30 pm! How the day flew by!
Do you have any fun plans this weekend?
Do you like cappuccinos?
How do you feel about symposiums/conferences/etc? What’s the last one you went to?
