Saturday morning started off with a pretty standard but delicious breakfast of Greek yogurt, Vega vanilla protein powder, a banana, chia seeds, almond butter, and some cinnamon.
After a session at Unite Fitness, I ran home for a quick shower and bite to eat, and then caught a bus to Baltimore! My friend, Nana, is interning there at Under Armour, and I’ve been meaning to visit him for the past couple weeks.
Shortly after I arrived, our friend, David picked us up to go to his place for a BBQ with friends and his family.
Along with burgers, fries, hotdogs, and salad, there were a lot of laughs and jokes.
Although all that was great, I have to say that the highlight of the night might have been dessert.
David’s mom not only brought out cherries and watermelon, but homemade butterscotch brownies, and 3 different kinds of ice cream.
After leaving full and exhausted, our night finished up by watching a documentary on Netflix about the escape from Alcatraz.
This morning I woke up loudly singing: “Good morning Baltimoooorrrreee!”, and proceeded to skip down the streets with my large poofy hair like Tracy Turnblad.
Okay that didn’t
happen at all exactly happen, but our morning still started off pretty well.
After a quick breakfast, Nana and I headed out for a tour of Baltimore’s harbour. We stumbled upon some paddle boats, and decided to rent one to take for a little spin in the water.
We considered trying to play “bumper-paddle-boat” with other boats in the harbour, but figured we’d better not. I’d like to blame it on the fact that our boats reached a top max speed similar to that of a slug, but really we were just scared of our competition- 4-year olds and their parents in larger, dragon shaped boats.
After some casual pedalling, we walked around the inner harbour until we eventually wound up at the Under Armour store.
After trying on a
million few different things, I ended up buying a pair of workout capris, and orange shorts. Can you ever have too many workout clothes?
One of the cool features about downtown Baltimore is its free public bus system! After the shopping trip, we took advantage of this freebie and made our way to the other side of the harbour for lunch. We found an interesting Mexican-themed place which seemed to be a mix of a restaurant, bar, and lounge.
We both ordered omelettes, served with slices of pita bread, fruit salad, and a muffin.
I was eager to check out the Under Armour campus where Nana’s been working, so he took me for a little tour afterwards. He forgot his key so we didn’t go inside, but I was able to peer in from the outside like a creepy person. The gym was state of the art, complete with spin bikes, space for cross training, and weight machines.
Nana said that some mornings he will run to the “campus” early before work, where there will be all kinds of fitness classes going on, from cross training, to spinning, to yoga.
Can you imagine doing outdoor morning yoga overlooking this view?
Although I’ve taken quite a liking to the City of Brotherly Love, Baltimore takes the cake in terms of bearable hot weather. Being right on the shore allows for a nice breeze to cool you off on hot days like today, which made being outdoors much more tolerable. Cities can get quite stifling at times, but Baltimore’s inner harbour makes it seem much less claustrophobic.
Even though the heat wasn’t too bad, I couldn’t resist buying a refreshing frozen fruit pop from the Pop Couture stand downtown.
I ordered a Banana Berry popsicle, and Nana chose a Pink Lemonade flavour. Mine was essentially a frozen smoothie, and I bet it would be super easy to recreate it at home if you had popsicle molds!
After some other odds and ends (watching stupid YouTube videos, mostly), it was time to head to the bus station to go back to Philadelphia.
I made it to the bus terminal on time, however after I was informed that the bus would be an hour late, I stepped out to grab something quick to eat. Well, the bus ended up leaving only half an hour late, so I missed it. Fortunately I was able to catch the next one, and thanks to free Greyhound wifi, here I am blogging from the road!
Thanks again to David and his family for a great time last night, and to Nana for showing me around Baltimore. Now I’m trying to decide which other big North East cities I have yet to visit, because between my NYC and Baltimore trips, I’m 2 for 2 as far as good times go!
Do you like Under Armour apparel/do you wear it?
What were some highlights from your weekend?
