Happy Monday! I took the weekend off from blogging and internet in general, and today it seems as though I’ve been gone for so long! That’s kind of sad, when you think about it.
Anyway! Just means that I’ve got lotsa things to share, but I’ll try to make it somewhat organized. Here’s a quick preview:
- National Endurance Sports Summit (NESS). Full recap to come tomorrow!
- 5k for the cure
- Brunch + other food
- Dinner at Cheeburger with the District! (aka, friends)
- Arctic Zero giveaway winners (!!!)
5K for the Cure
Saturday started off on an active and intense note, as our team gathered to race a 5k in support of breast cancer.
The course wound throughout campus, and finished on a slight uphill, which was killer. I felt pretty good for the first two miles, but the last mile was hard. Overall, I was happy with my time, and even happier when I picked up an almond croissant courtesy of my cycling coach 🙂
Although it wasn’t as good as the almond croissants from the bakery that I used to work at (I might be biased 😉 ), it was still a great post-race treat! (Ps. I’m biased because I used to make the almond croissants at my old job).
After half a bagel and half the croissant, I headed to a dining hall with some teammates for brunch! I was feeling fairly full after my post-race snacks, but I knew I needed something more substantial (and some protein) in my stomach to avoid a sugar crash.
I filled my plate with some cottage cheese, spinach salad, quinoa salad, and an egg white/onion/spinach/mushroom omelette. After not having eaten a single vegetable on Friday (yikes), this brunch hit the spot!
Another highlight of Saturday was going to Matt Fitzgerald’s talk at the NESS on the 80/20 training rule. I’ll get to that recap in another post, but I will say that Nana and I loved it so much, we stayed to talk with Matt for a whole hour afterwards.
afternoon morning started off with brunch, Wawa Pumpkin Spice coffee, a little work, and some friendly hang out time. After some chatting with friends work , I closed up my books and headed out to play a game of intramural soccer. It was hot and humid, but we still had a ton of fun running around as a late afternoon study break.
Dinner with friends at Cheeburger
After soccer, a little work, and a shower, I met up with my oldest group of Princeton friends for dinner at Cheeburger.
We’re a ridiculously diverse bunch (athletes, theatre, dance, a cappella, and more), and it’s remarkable that we became such good friends considering we never would have found each other if we had not been put together randomly. We bonded instantly, and have since remained friends, although we don’t all live within 30 feet of each other anymore.
I have to share what Jen ordered, 1) because it took her a whole 5 minutes to order it, and 2) because it’s so. freaking. whacky.
That, right there, is the world’s spiciest burger. Jen literally ordered every spiciest condiment and topping on the menu to add to her burger, including but not limited to jalapeño peppers, chillies, and sriracha sauce. Her exact words were “if I’m not crying when I’m eating, something’s up”. To be honest, I don’t exactly know what Jen meant by that, but I learned a long time ago to stop questioning much of Jen’s strange comments. (And I know everyone else will back me up on this 😉 )
Matt ordered his typical wrap: chicken, lettuce, maybe another vegetable in there, and honey mustard. He seemed pretty happy about it.
After much deliberation, I settled on the grilled portobello and chicken salad. They had numerous free toppings, and I chose to add corn, sundried tomatoes, feta cheese, shredded carrots, water chestnuts, and guacamole to the mix.
Since we all do a variety of different things on campus, it’s difficult for all 8 of us to get together for more than an hour at a time, so it was time very well spent 🙂 I forgot how funny our group dynamic is!
Finally… I can’t sign off without announcing the winners from last week’s Arctic Zero giveaway!!
