Hello hello hello from Florida!
After an extremely busy but fun weekend, followed by an intense 2-day week, I’ve finally landed in Florida with Alex for Thanksgiving break! We’re about to head off to lunch, but I’ve managed to find a few minutes to pop in and blog about my birthday weekend.
After publishing Saturday morning’s post, I headed off to the gym with Olivia to do some hill sprints on the treadmill. It was killer, but a great way to start my day on an energized note! Afterwards we grabbed some coffee and smoothies, which I delivered to Hadley in her room. Little did I know, that while I had been out getting coffee, Hadley had decorated my room with balloons and streamers!
It was such a fun surprise, and I love the decorations so much that I still haven’t taken them down! Why not ride out the birthday high as long as possible, right?
Around noon, the team met up at one of the dining halls for a pre-match brunch, before heading down to the courts to take on Franklin and Marshall. We played well and picked up a solid win, finishing with…pumpkin cupcakes!!!!
I had 3 of them before going back on court to play for a little while with Hadley and Natalie.
Alex, Hadley and I finished off the night by eating out at my favourite Indian restaurant in Princeton, Cross Culture. Sounds like a pretty average name, but trust me, the food is amazing. We ordered a number of dishes, including Chicken Makhani, Saag paneer, and Daal Makhani, along with naan and roti.
After having finished dinner, the three of us ran- literally- to the liquor store so that I could buy (but not consume- we had a match the next day) my first ever drink!
Hadley felt it necessary to document the event. I felt like a child being taken to the toy store with her two proud parents. All I will say is that there was cheering involved, and it was embarrassing. Oh well.
We finished off the night by hanging out in my room and relaxing, which quite honestly, I was pretty happy to do. Since we were playing Wesleyan the next day, we weren’t allowed to go out and celebrate with alcoholic drinks (which I am now legally allowed to consume 😉 ), but I was perfectly content chilling and having a quiet night in with friends.
After a convincing win over Wesleyan, I headed to the recreational gym to teach a free, Undergraduate Student Government (USG) sponsored indoor cycling ride, called “Spinning and Twinning”. The ride was much longer than a normal class, since it was supposed to simulate a “race day”. Although the event was supposed to last an hour and a half, I cut it down to about an hour and fifteen minutes, which I think everyone (including myself) was quite grateful for.
After a shower and some food, the team, some friends and I finally got together to celebrate our weekend matches, and for me, my birthday!
All in all, it was a very successful weekend, and let’s just say, I’m sure ready for Thanksgiving break. My mind needs a little rest from school!
Monday + Tuesday
Squash on Squash wouldn’t be complete without some food and fitness updates, now would it?
Although Monday night was technically a “big night” to go out before break, I just couldn’t rally. This ended up being a good decision in the end, as I felt much more rested at 6:50 am yesterday morning when my alarm went off for 7:30 am practice. Surprisingly, training wasn’t too horrific, and it was nice to get it out of the way early on in the day.
After a few hours of homework, Nana and I met up to have lunch at Olives (where else, really?!). I ordered the brie and apricot baked chicken, along with strawberry spinach salad.
Yesterday afternoon I also received a notification saying that I had a packaged to be picked up from the campus centre. Not expecting any packages of any sort, I was curious as to what it could be! Well, this is what I found inside, along with a note saying: “To my favourite blogger and breakfast buddy…Happy Birthday! xoxo Viking Girl”.
I had absolutely no idea who could have sent it, but after talking about it with a few friends and putting the pieces together, we realized it was my Swedish friend, Johanna! So, thank you, Johanna for the orange water bottle! I can’t wait to use it 🙂
Well it’s almost time for lunch here, which means I’ve got to get changed and all that jazz. Sadly, it’s raining today, but apparently tomorrow it’s supposed to be a lot better! I sure hope so- I need my tan back!!
How was your weekend?
Ever heard of S’well water bottles?
What did you do for your birthday when you turned legal?
Thanks again to all of my friends who made my birthday so special. Pumpkin cupcakes, squash, and Indian food- couldn’t have been much better!
